Information architecture
Information architecture (or IA) addresses how we categorise, label, browse and search content. It’s pretty fundamental stuff.
Why go into such detail?
If people can’t intuitively find their around your website, you’re missing business opportunities – and wasting money. Although there are many ways in which your user interface can cause problems, the information architecture is the most important.
Who benefits?
That’s easy: anyone with a large or complex online interface. That could mean:
- Intranets which need to balance the opinions of different departments. We don’t just sympathise; we solve the problem.
- Ecommerce product catalogues which need to maximise profits. And yes, we're happy to discuss performance-based fees.
- Public sector websites with fiendishly sprawling architecture. We know how to put things right.
How can the Usability Lab help?
Thorny information architecture issues? In our experience, nothing’s unsolvable – given a structured approach and the commitment to involve you and your users.
We offer card-sorting exercises with quantified results, as well as qualitative insights. We’ll establish standards for your menu-labelling and other interface features – allowing your interface architecture to grow and adapt, without compromising usability.
